Ruffedge:"Nothing quite as amusing as a leftist offering insight on biblical theology."
Nothing is quite as amusing as a conservative offering his expertise on science. Your statement is as absurd as the one I've just stated. Please refrain from using such stereotypical jibs.
"To say that a wealthy person is always greedy is to say that liberal is always atheist. Stereotypes don't always work. Liberal do tend to equate wealth with greed based primarily on Marxist philosophy. Of course they fail to look at the wealth of Franklin Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy or even Barrack Obama. Conveniently blindsided I guess."
Please look past the generalizations. The author is not assuming that EVERYONE who's well off is greedy. Your comments lack the critical thinking necessary to understand a person's thought beyond just their words.
"Christ didn't put the responsibility of the poor on the government, but rather on the church, (this speaks of Christians corporately and not little buildings with steeples). And yes, it is churches that do the most to fill up food banks, It is churches that run missions for the homeless. It is churches that do what they can to help out alcohlics and addicts clean up their lives and become productive members of society again. The Salvation Army would be one example."
You seem to insinuate that Churches are the only ones that are morally responsible enough to donate. Donating and helping the poor is not and should not be limited to the Church.
"The idea that federal socialism is somehow morally superior to charity is a false premise. Giving the government charge over the everyday lives of the people has already proven itself repeatedly to be a recipe for disaster."
First off, you're still under the delusion of Fox News that this country is slippery-slope'ing down the road of Socialism. I assure you, that this country is still and will continue to be a capitalistic society, long after the two of us are dead. If you haven't thought about it, Socialism would require the US government to nationalize a majority of businesses in this country. This will not happen, because we will never let it.
Secondly, do you have any idea how big a role the government has in regulating our lives? Every household object probably has one or more regulations limiting hazards to consumers, users, and the environment, as well as ensuring the quality of goods. For an example of a bad government regulation, google 'China's melanin milk scandal.'
"Part of the reason why most Christians tend to lean towards the Republican party has to do with the fact that GOP realizes that pursuit of life liberty and happiness should be extended to even those Americans that haven't been born yet. Most Republicans realize that handing a kid a condom is not the best way to promote sexual morality in our youth."
What of the 'life liberty and pursuit of happiness' for those bearing the child? If having to support and care for this child brings hardship, sadness, and poverty, what then? (don't forget missed opportunities, such as certain jobs and full college education) Some of the religious crowd would berate the poor woman for being nonreligious and bearing a child out of wedlock. The Church's method to promote sexual morality is little help at best. Recent research shows that 'vows of abstinence' do not help teenage pregnancy rates. Google 'medical vows of abstinence.'
"I don't know, maybe he does know more than that, but what I got out of his little article is that he hates Christians, and Republicans and that he doesn't understand faith."
What? I'm not sure if you read the article. Where did 'he hates Christians' and 'he doesn't understand faith' come from? Stop attacking the author please.
