I believe we have to reach deep into the reservoir of our community and extract the talent that has been held hostage by hostile circumstances.
Our children have all but disappeared. Their identifiable characteristics have worn to indistingushable markings. We can no longer identify our children. They have successfully moved the marker for adulthood to an all time low. The process that was used to achieve this change can be traced back to the previous generations.
The children of this generation have been handed a very frightening legacy. Call it .. an inheritance. An inheritance that have effectively smothered, and replaced the child's natural born talents.
Children are not born with a talent to be drug abusers. They are not born with a talent to be thieves and murderers. They are not born with a talent to mothers and fathers while they are children themselves. Yet, all of these things have plagued our young people more frequently than our imaginations could have dreamed up just twenty short years ago.
There are laws in some States in America today that says we can charge and try fourteen years olds as adults, for some specified crimes. There are other States in our Union that says a teen-ager can legally divorce their parents.
Where are the children?
There are teen-agers today who are supporting their entire families through drug profits, prostitution, boosting and, other illegal activities. There is a whole new dimension that has been added to the lives of young people today. It is a phenomena with no name. We try to pretend it's not that bad. Maybe it's just a fad that'll go away. Once they grow up it'll pass. Well guess what? They have grown up! and their children have grown up too! We are now dealing with the second generation of this phenomena with no name.
Where are the children?
They are not bussed in from neighboring countries; They are not dropped off by aliens from another planet. I'm going to tell you something that you probably already know. But just in case you don't know, I want you to do this little experiment. If you do this experiment you will probably spot one or two of them, I know I did.
Just turn your head from side to side and, while standing on your feet turn all the way around. There's one more thing, do this while standing in your home. Surprised? Don't be. These children come from our homes. All-American traditional homes. Now what do you think? Have I gone too far? Am I exaggerating? If anyone should know, we should.
Where are the children?
Our young people need us. They need us as parents, teachers, counselors, pastors and, friends. They need to see, and hear us do the right thing. It's very difficult to be a kid when you are forced to be an adult. If kids want to be adults, what do adults want to be?
