Hi. I've been using StumbleUpon for a while, mainly to surf the web and find whatever interests me; I love classic rock music, gaming and I'm currently studying Computer Science at the University of Strathclyde.

  • Fucked up world. (where over 50% of the worlds wealth is...

    Created Apr 03 2009

I've been watching Zeitgeist, and researching a lot online. I can only come to the conclusion that our world is seriously fucked by the evil that is money (I'm atheist BTW, those words were influenced by knowledge and facts, and the standard definition of 'evil'). We live in a world where over 50% of the worlds wealth is owned by 2% of it's people, and a world where over 25,000 children die every single day due to starvation and disease.
I'm not a man with power, so I'm saddened by the fact that I can't do anything about how terrible our world is.
Think what you may about what I have said, but do not judge me, these are just conclusions I have came to by analysing the facts, impartially and without bias.
Money is something favoured by the 'elite' - those with all of it of course, also those with most power in the world.
Communism is a governing system which equalizes things much more than capitalism, would allow for everyone living under it to have a comfortable lifestyle, without disease and starvation, dividing the money equally.
Communism is not evil, it is just a system like any other, if a person who uses that system abuses it, then he or she is evil, but if perfectly managed, it is a system that could be without corruption.
Communism has long been perceived as evil by many, the main reason for this is of course anti communism propaganda, funded by those with money, who obviously oppose a system which would take much of that money from them and divide it equally among the populace, essentially.
Our world, our human race, has many barriers to overcome, money is probably the main one.

From the page: "In 1871 Benjamin and his brother were considering giving up the sea and buying a hardware store in New Bedford, but apparently decided against this. In 1872 Benjamin bought a share in the brigantine Mary Celeste owned by James Winchester, formally the Amazon, and made modifications to the cabin to house his family. In late 1872, two-year-old Sophia and his wife Sarah accompanied him on a voyage from Staten Island, New York, to Genoa, Italy, while 7-year-old Arthur was left with his grandmother at Rose Cottage, Marion, Massachusetts, to attend school.

A month later the ship was found famously and inexplicably abandoned in the calm waters of the Atlantic Ocean near the Straits of Gibraltar. Briggs, Sophia and Sarah, along with the rest of the crew of the Marie Celeste, were never discovered and their fate remains a mystery."

From the page: "We hope for change but it hasn't arrived yet. I voted for the opposition. In Lebanon I have only one enemy, and that is Israel and everybody who is against Israel is my friend.

I don't like the way the government makes the rich richer. It is always the same few people who govern and who benefit from it. It is assumed that Sunni Muslims vote for Hariri, but I am not one of them.

Lebanon's confessional system [which gives different ethnic and religious groups a fixed number of seats in parliament] encourages candidates to campaign on religious divisions. And also to whip up fear of different groups.

We need to change the electoral system so people vote on issues like education, health and environment, rather than on their religious identity.

Because of Israel, we saw prominent American politicians in Lebanon before the election, to try to defeat Hezbollah. We saw lots of propaganda saying women would have to wear the chador if the opposition wins.

We need to change the constitution so the president is not chosen by Americans, or by Israelis or Syrians, but by Lebanese citizens."

From the page: ""As the human race moves into adolescence and adulthood, it can no longer afford to guide its affairs via those simple myths. Our human ancestors thought long and hard on who and what they were and came up with the best explanations they could make. The frightening thing is that we -- almost at the end of the 20th century, entering the space age, becoming a society based on knowledge -- are still hanging onto those explanations, which date back to our Stone Age. I think we need a more fruitful way to analyze these questions. We need exciting philosophical thought. I don't dislike religion, but I am in considerable fear of what today's brand can lead to."
