    v no more tricks o

    From the page:
I ask you to stand beside me this November, outside the gates of Parliament, and together we shall give them a fifth of November that shall never, ever be forgot.

This fifth of November, the plan is to recreate the mass masked gathering outside Parliament from the finale of the film 'V For Vendetta', to protest that there is something terribly wrong with this country.

Where once we had the freedom to object, to think and speak as we saw fit, we now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing people into conformity and submission.

We are the most observed people in Europe. Whilst CCTV watches over us, government departments demand more and more information on our lives. If we speak out we are troublemakers, 'violent anarchists', even terrorists. Our police are now so untouchable that even when their actions lead to the deaths of Londoners like Jean Charles de Menezes, Ian Tomlinson and so many others, no one is held to account. Those charged with watching over them are incompetent and cowardly.

Now we know that our venal politicians take hundreds of thousands of pounds in dodgy expenses whilst millions face unemployment, job insecurity and financial worries. These same politicians gleefully hound those who are struggling on benefits.

And all the time it seems there is nothing we can do. But that ends this November.
On Thursday 5th November 2009, come down to Parliament Square at 7pm dressed in a Guy Fawkes mask and a cloak. And stand together against injustice, intolerance and oppression.

Software to accompany the Sustainable Communities Research Group

Sustainable communities are an ideal that is being strived for by many sectors of the community-building and planning profession. To minimize energy use, as part of a holistic view of the community building process, is the primary goal of those involved in this emerging field. The McMaster University Sustainable Communities Research Group is furthering this goal through innovative research on both the design and evaluation fronts of this new movement.

This site contains summaries and end-results of several facets of this research, with the hopes that it will prove useful to both planning and design professionals, as well as the interested population at large. A large focus of the research has been in the construction of Decision Support Systems for community design, and they can be found under the Design link. The corollary to Design, the Evaluation link contains three software prototypes for the evaluation of proposed communities, in terms of sustainability.

Virtual communities is the newest branch of this research, and allows you to create, with the help of a decision support system, a virtual, 3 dimensional community, which you can then navigate as though you were actually there. It is hoped that this will become a powerful design aid in the near future.

The McMaster University Sustainable Communities Research Group is led by Dr. Brian W. Baetz.

From the page: On Friday, comedienne Sarah Silverman was paired with a Jungian analyst, Michael Vannoy Adams, and told to interpret one of the Red Book's psychedelic illustrations as part of a continuing series at the Rubin, "The Red Book Dialogues."

She began tentatively. "It looks like a very contained world. Snakes. Turtles. Really nice tiles. Um, fire and water," she said. "Am I doing this right? There's no wrong, right?"
