It's always painful to hear how torture is still a technique practiced in the 21st century. Just as painful is to hear about the lack of transparency, unholy alliances with nations that torture on our behalf, and our government's inability to see how confessions and information provided under duress tend to be fabricated and worse than worthless, they're misleading.
