So, the last profile page I had on here was rubbish; lets start again! Hi, i'm the Lovable Rogue, also known as Chris! I recently completed my Masters in Marketing Management, with a specific focus on digital marketing. My final dissertation examined the effects of the social media on an organisation's brand equity. Over the past few weeks, I have created a blog, and also a presence in a number of other social media communities. They can all be accessed through my blog, so if you have a presence in Twitter, Digg or any of the other applications, I would love to hear from you. Also, I write a brief review of every interesting social media related article I read. If you are a blog author that has written an interesting piece about the weird and wonderful world of the social media, let me know and I will happily review it. For now, I think that's about it. The guys over at the Wall Street Journal seem to have missed the point with their new Twitter guidelines for engagement. Removing collaboration from the presence by restricting the ability of reporters to share developing stories will detract from the impact of the presence. This seems to be a case of dragging a one directional preence into a two way medium.

Another interesting piece from the guys over at Site Visibility. The article highlights the 'dangers' of appearing on the second page of the Google search results. Unfortunately for website owners, whilst front page real estate in Google's rankings have become ever more valuable, the difficulty of achieving this goal has risen through steps taken by Google to expand the variety of results. An interesting dillema which poses a novel threat to website owners.

This is the premise behind a new service called Global For Me. It's an interesting idea, which takes the idea of user generated content to the next level. Whether or not this new model will prove viable is anyone's guess.

Another useful post from Valeria Maltoni, this time highlighting the importance of facilitating user empowerment when engaging in blogger outreach. In the social media, Internet users are active producers, as well as consumers. These communities are no longer satisfied with being marketed to, and instead are demanding a more involving role in the online sphere. Organisations need to realise this.
