I finished the story mode of Batman Arkham Asylum last night, ending the game as it began by bringing the Joker, this time a Titan induced monster, to his knees. To be honest it wasn't very hard! Perhaps a little disappointing as a Boss Battle and definitely an anticlimax to what has been an awesome game.
The final cut scene is similar to the recent Batman movies, a quiet word with Gordon while a call comes in referring to a new crime being commited by another legendary villain.
The game has been engaging and beautifully designed from start to finish. The characters are great - Harley, Joker and Ivy all delivering great lines and looking cool and sexy (I am referring to Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn of course). The Scarecrow levels were a little different styled very much like a traditional platformer and they helped tp break up the game with little like mini games. Scarecrow also delivered some of the creepiest moments in the game including ne where I though my PS3 had crashed. The game "rebooted" and I was ready to start complaining to someone when I realised that Joker and Batman had switched places in the Batmobile. Very clever moment indeed.
Bane and the Titan injected thugs provided some frustrating combat moments that forced you to slow and think about your moves. Fighting on Arkham Island is nothing like Tekken!
Add to the lush graphics some great puzzles, the coolest in game gadgets ever and a stealth system / detective mode that in my opinion gives Metal Gear a run for it's money.
If Uncharted 2 wasn't coming out next week followed shortly after by Modern Warfare 2, I could see myself running through the Challenge Modes and also going back to the Asylum to pick up the trophies and solve the remaining riddles.
The problem now is that the island is deserted save a few, chattering Joker teeth and the odd lunatic. It's just a little dull and going back to find the Riddler clues isn't that exciting a prospect.
This has turned into a bit of a review so I should give this game a score and a final word. So here it is:
Awesome and 95%
