"To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intellingent persons and the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest citizens and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one's self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived - this is to have succeeded." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-82)

Aspartame and Multiple Sclerosis - Neurosurgeons Warning - Health Supreme...

From the page: "Aspartame contains the excitotoxin aspartate as 40% of its molecular structure. Numerous studies have shown that consuming aspartame can significantly elevate the excitotoxin level in the blood. There is a common situation during which the excitotoxin exposure is even greater. When aspartate (as aspartame) is combined in the diet with monosodium glutamate (MSG) blood levels are several fold higher than normal. With the BBB damaged, as in MS, these excitotoxins can freely enter the site of injury, greatly magnifying the damage. So, we see that dietary excitotoxins, such as aspartame and MSG, can greatly magnify the damage produced in multiple sclerosis. Likewise, excitotoxins have been shown to break down the BBB as well."

MAKE YOUR OWN COOL VEST!

INSTRUCTIONS:

Go to a fabric store and find a vest pattern you really like. I waited until patterns were on sale for 99 cents and found one that I thought was versatile enough to be comfortable and look good.

You need to buy good fabric for the outside and a cheaper remnant for the inside of the vest.

Cut the pattern out as instructed for your size, cut a bit more for an extra seam allowance. (About 3/8 of an inch) Do this to both pieces of material.

Sew the good and the "cheap" material pieces one at a time right sides together. This should be like you are making a pillow. Leave a small bit of seam open. about three inches, turn the material right side out. Do this to all three pieces. Treat these as if they are just one piece and sew together according to the instructions on the pattern. Make sure your edges match up. If not you will have an uneven seam. I have found that most of the time if I keep my stitching even there is not a discrepancy. This will also automatically take care of the hemming! You do that by sewing and turning right side out!! : )

To finish the vest take your blue ice packs. You will need six envelope type blue ice or substitute. Sometimes you can find them under another name brand. Measure and cut six pockets out of left over material. Add one inch all around(1/4 inch on each side) for depth and add another inch for seam allowances. Iron the edges down to make a hem that is 1/4 inch on each side. Slip stitch or mattress stitch three sides to the inside of your vest. Two about the same place as the small of your back, one under each arm hole, two under rib cage,(0ne on either side). After sewing these in, sew a snap or bit of Velcro to each side to hold the ice pack in.

To finish the front of the vest I have found a strip of Velcro running the whole length to be more effective than snaps or buttons. There is no gaping from the weight of the ice packs. The inside layer is also to take the stress and puckering of the weight of the ice packs and leaves the good material smooth and unwrinkled.

I find the ice packs last me three hours in 98 degree temps for three hours!

From the page: ""A duck's quack doesn't echo" is a much quoted scientific myth. In spring 2003 it was quoted on Home Truths on BBC Radio 4 and Shooting Stars on BBC 2. You can listen to our sound files on Home Truths by going to the BBC4 web site and "listening again". Recently, Salford Acoustics was the source of the story being presented in the national and international media when we proved that a duck's quack does echo as part of the British Association Festival of Science."

From the page: "A Quincy woman carrying $46,950 in cash through Logan International Airport claims she was on the way to see a Texas plastic surgeon when federal drug agents seized the money she planned to use for a procedure on her buttocks and breasts.

Your government at work, fellows Shovelers! What business is it of theirs whether you have 4 or 40,000 dollars?

The agent looked at my buttocks and told me that I do not need an operation,'' Ileana Valdez, 26, told a federal court yesterday in an affidavit contending she got the cash from selling her Dorchester business and two homes.

Valdez claims a male agent from the Drug Enforcement Agency asked her to take off her clothes to show her rear end. She refused but let a female officer examine her. `It's just sad they can associate money with drugs without having anything else,' Blaize said.

They're putting the burden on her to prove it's not drug money. So much innocent until proven, huh?"
Time-Car! The Delorean Time Machine Home Page

From the site: "I purchased the car for the sole purpose of converting it into a time machine. I have respect for the DMC-12 automobile itself, having read about and studied it for years while searching for this one. John DeLorean was an incredible visionary and his car was ahead of it's time. And I don't think any other 1982 car can say this: It still is ahead of it's time!

(DeLorean purists, brace yourselves) Initially, the DeLorean was simply a means to an end for me. I approached the project fully committed, yet found creative solutions to avoid making holes in the stainless body panels. Some were drilled in the rear fiberglass, but I figure that's what Bondo is made for, right? As time passes, my views of the car itself are expanding, having gathered with hundreds of other owners at the Memphis Delorean Car Show in June of 2002. Owning a DeLorean has brought another group of friends into our lives and has given us yet another community to share stories and fun with.

There are a few who feel vintage cars were meant to be stored in climate-controlled darkness forever, or hauled around on a trailer from place to place. Concourse cars are a beauty to look at and I enjoy them when on display at car shows. I don't think I could ever keep this kind of perfection up, especially since I don't like driving a trailer! :-)
Whenever I hear murmurs from antique car enthusiasts about 'permanent damage', I am caused to ponder the word 'permanent.' What is 'permanent' anyway?
I'm not.
But by golly, I'm going to be driving around in a fun car while I'm here!"

Oliver Holler, the creator of the Time Car was a friend of mine in High School. I hadn't heard from him in years until another friend sent me a link to this site. It's always nice to hear about old friends. :)
