CURRENT HAZARD: record warm temperatures & snow melt create extremely dangerous spring runoff conditions! Please: always be aware of your local conditions. Most weather & environmentally related casualties can typically be prevented by safe behaviour methods. Seasonal swift water conditons are common in many areas throughout the world...
-so here are some good safety tips. sw

SWIFT WATER CONDITIONS ARE DANGEROUS
AND CAN BE DEADLY!

article/image source: The Salt Lake Tribune
    "Officials from the Wasatch-Cache National Forest urge caution to those visiting Forest Service lands this spring. Wet conditions have created many dangers. While the information came from the Wasatch-Cache, it can be applied to other regions of the state: {ed. again, just the local source; apply the following to your specific locale. sw}

    * Parents need to pay special attention their children.
Swift water is a natural, but potentially deadly magnet
    for curious youngsters.

    * Do not attempt to wade across cold, swift water -
    it can be deceivingly dangerous.

    * Stay off unstable stream banks - added weight can cause them to
    collapse.

    * Don't play fetch with your dog in fast-moving water. Although
generally great swimmers, dogs can easily be dragged downstream
    by a powerful current.

    * Avoid walking on iced-over lakes and streams; rapidly thinning ice may
be hidden by a layer of snow.

    * Be aware of wet soils on steep slopes, which may produce falling rocks
that are dangerous for hikers and vehicles.

    * Watch for weakening snow bridges, a particular concern for
    snowmobilers at stream crossings.

    * Stay out of avalanche-prone areas. Avalanche hazards remain high in
    many areas."

CURRENT EVENTS:
UTAH Living Traditions Festival May 19, 20, 21, Salt Lake City.

Living Traditions:
A Celebration of Salt Lake's Folk and Ethnic Arts

"We present, with great pleasure and for the benefit of all, the twenty-first annual Living Traditions Festival. By means of this public celebration, the community comes together to share the contemporary customs - in music, dance, foods and crafts - of Salt Lake Valley's diverse ethnic groups. Through these traditions passed down through generations, ethnic communities perpetuate themselves and individuals develop a strong sense of their own identity.

Local ethnic artists -- craftspeople, dancers, musicians, and chefs -- are at the heart of Living Traditions. They present for us the techniques, styles, tools, and materials that are used in their respective artforms, some centuries old. We add to the experience by bringing featured guest artists to perform, presenting musical styles that may not be indigenous to Salt Lake."
