Ah, there is such risk in speaking kindly to strangers! If we are thoughtful, and polite, and engage them in pleasant conversation they may feel free to stop by...and catch us as we really are. After a half century of concealing my true self behind a fabricated persona, I have decided that it is no longer worth the trouble. Click, don't click, I couldn't possibly care less. (Well...except for you, and possibly you.) Photo: Relaxing in her new environment.

    Window Cleaner Set

A Window And Surface Cleaning System For All Of Those Hard-To-Reach Areas
Having clean windows is a pet peeve of mine. Getting to some of the corners and edges on the inside of my windshield and rear window requires the arms of an octopus and advanced yoga moves! Just slip the bonnet over the sturdy padded holding system, spray our Window Cleaner on the bonnet and boom! Ultra-clean windows! The long, comfortable gripping handle allows you to maneuver into even the tightest of areas. You could even add an extension pole. Even remote surfaces of your glass can finally be cleaned. Also great for wood furniture, countertops or metal surfaces in your home. Three thick, washable bonnets are included in the set. One Micro Fiber, one Terry Micro Fiber and one Nylon Mesh for really dirty surfaces. Now window cleaning can be fun!

If I hadn't found this I would have had to invent it! I can simply no longer reach far enough , and into the tight spaces to clean my windows. They will be getting my order pronto-just as soon as I go over their catalog to make sure there isn't something else I can't do without.

    Do you get spam?

    Do you get junk mail?
Do you get credit card application junk mail?
Do you get ALL of the credit card application junk mail that is sent to you?

It used to be that we didn't have to worry too much about theft of our mail. Every once in a while you would hear about some Postal Worker stealing mail...but you knew that they almost always got caught-and that most of them would not even think about it because they would at the very least lose a good job and good benefits and retirement.

But what if people sorting and handling the mail didn't have so much to lose?
What if they were working for a contractor who didn't pay so much and didn't offer any benefits?
What if they were approached and offered $25 or even $50 for each application they could slip out of a tray to turn over to an identity thief?

Usually fear of being caught by the legendary Postal Inspectors is enough to keep most from even thinking about it, but what would be the result of a contract employer turning over a mail thief? Probably more oversight and hassles. I think that threatening to turn them over would convince anyone to look for other employment, since it wouldn't make it into their file under these circumstances.

Did you know that the Postal Service uses third party contract laborers to sort most of the mail now.

So...do YOU get all of your junk mail?

The present application claims priority of co-pending provisional application U.S. Ser. No. 60/900,513, filed on Feb. 9, 2007, bearing the same title as the present application, the disclosure of which is incorporated by reference herein in its entirety. Applicants claim the benefits of such application under 35 U.S.C. §119(e).s
    FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates generally to markers and assays for autism and to the association of GSTM1 with autism. The invention relates to the use and application of GSTM1 as a susceptibility marker for autism. GSTM1 may be combined with other markers in methods and assays for diagnosis, prenatal diagnosis, and assessment of autism. The invention further relates to a likelihood ratio test.
    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Autism (autistic disorder) is a pervasive developmental disorder with diagnostic criteria based on abnormal social interactions, language abnormalities, and stereotypes evident prior to 36 months of age [5]. Despite its lack of Mendelian transmission autism is highly genetically determined [6].

The vast majority of cases of autism are unrelated to known teratogens but the phenotypic expression of autism may be affected by the interaction of environmental factors with multiple gene loci. There is evidence supporting a role for oxidative stress in autism [7, 8]. Oxidative stress could interact with common functional polymorphic variants of genes that protect against oxidative stress and could thus affect brain development during gestation or possibly after gestation, contributing to expression of autism. Glutathione (GSH) is the most important endogenous antioxidant due to its ability to bind electrophilic substrates through its free sulfhydryl group [9] and is the most abundant non-protein thiol, occurring in millimolar concentrations in human tissues [10]. Low plasma total GSH (tGSH) levels, elevated levels of oxidized GSH (GSSG) and low ratios of tGSH:GSSG have been reported in autism [11].

Hmmmm....it's a good concept, but I can already see a bad side.

    Parrot saves a life!

Two year old Hannah's babysitter was feeding her a Poptart for breakfast. All was going well when the babysitter had to go to the bathroom. While she was gone, she heard the parrot, Willie violently fluttering in his cage and screaming. Then the parrot started calling out "Momma baby! Momma baby! Momma baby!" over & over again. So, the babysitter hurried back to find Hannah blue in the face from choking on the Poptart. The babysitter extracted the lodged food and saved Hannah's life.
