This man's story is a true story. Thank him for sharing his pain, and let it wake you up.
Try to remember, what was our American dream?
It was to work 30 or 40 years and know that you could live a reasonably happy and healthy life during and after. That's really all mortgages, pensions, union contracts, and health insurance ever really were for. We made them so complicated, but in the end all we wanted was to be given a chance to do our best to be useful and to be promised some comfort and security in return.
Now there are no promises from the powerful to the rest. Now, no matter what those loud voices shout, now in the space between heartbeats you can lose everything.
And the American dream has become the American nightmare. It didn't have to be this way. It doesn't have to stay this way.
