Interesting ideas. But it takes up way too much space.
A friend built a safer system. Her 4-year-olds bed has casters with a frame which barely clears the floor and is only 4 feet long; the six-year-olds is also on casters and sits 2 inches above the toddlers bed and is 5 feet long and the 10-year-olds bed is the same as the 6-year-olds, but is 6 feet long. As all of the beds rest on a rope lattitce system under their mattress rather than a box spring; the last bed is only 2 inches higher than a normal single. By nesting together, these beds sat against a wall when not in use and protrude only 28 inches into the room. A long folding counter on casters goes over them and is 3 1/2 feet deep. This means that the long narrow room can also be used for homework. Three narrow cupboards hold clothes. When pulled out, the beds allow a scant foot of space to move between them. This allows for the maximum use of space. The room had been a side porch at one time. And no one sleeps on an unsafe bunkbed.
