Wow - Sen. DeMint doesn't even hide the fact that he blocked Obama appointments for no other reason than to get his way on Honduras. It's one thing to be suspected of this kind of petty blackmail, but I guess since deals in Washington so rarely have anything to do with substance but rather with back-room deals and TV sound-bites that they figured "why keep up the charade?"

The democratically-elected president of Honduras, forced from his home in the middle of the night in his pajamas by a military coup a few months ago, has still yet to be reinstalled as president. Meanwhile, the coup government takes away free speech rights, closes down radio stations and other media that speak against the official coup government's line, installs curfews, gases, beats, imprisons (without charge), and outright kills demonstrators at will with virtually no international media to report about it. And it is in this environment that the coup government says with a straight face that they will hold fair elections.
