Folks, if it looks like a duck, waddles like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it ain't a swan. Fox News is propaganda, not news.

Fox News again accused of airing misleading video

Thu Nov 19, 3:36 pm ET

For the second time in just over a week, Fox News is coming under fire for misusing old news footage. The latest flap is leading some people to charge that the cable news network is intentionally misleading its audience, while Fox claims a "production error."

Wednesday's incident occurred when Fox News host Gregg Jarrett mentioned that a Sarah Palin appearance and book signing in Grand Rapids, Michigan had a massive turnout. As footage rolled of a smiling and waving Palin amidst a throng of fans, Jarrett noted that the former Republican vice-presidential candidate is "continuing to draw huge crowds while she's promoting her brand-new book,'' adding that the images being shown were "some of the pictures just coming in to us.... The lines earlier had formed this morning."

    Extraordinary Creatures

    Mudskipper

These remarkable fish have adapted their gills to hold water when out of the sea and have turned their pectoral fins into walking aids in order to live on mud flats. They are able to excavate underground burrows, where they lay their eggs, and can even jump into the air to help attract a mate.

    Where to spot them

Mudskippers can be found in tropical, subtropical and temperate region with tidal mud flats, including the Indo-Pacific and Atlantic coasts of Africa. In BBC One's Life, they were filmed in Saga, Japan.

    Komodo dragon

Possessing a muscular physique and 60 sharp, serrated teeth, the Komodo dragon is a giant animal with a fearsome reputation. It usually preys on deer, but is known to hunt larger mammals such as water buffalo and even humans. When hunting buffalo, one Komodo will attempt to bite the animal's leg. The wound may not be enough to kill the buffalo, but the Komodo's bite contains venom that prevents the wound healing. Several Komodos will track the buffalo for days, or even weeks, as it slowly weakens, before they are able to move in and devour it.

    Where to spot them

Komodos are found in the wild in just a few islands close to Bali (Komodo, Rinca, Flores, and Gili Motang). Tour operators offer trips to the islands from Bali, while the animals can be seen at a number of zoos, including London.

Neither Funny Nor Christian In My View

Christian Conservatives Praying for God to Kill Obama

There's a hilarious new meme in the wingnut sectors of the internet: someone's coined a bumper sticker slogan encouraging people to pray for Barack Obama. But here's the funny part: it's really a secret Christian code for "Kill the President!'

Posters to various message boards tell stories of seeing bumper stickers with the message "Pray for Obama--Psalm 109:8" on the highway, only to look up the verse and find, "Let his days be few; and let another take his office."

Intelligent Conservatives Find Palin Without Substance

    From Rod Dreher NPR

    November 17, 2009

Sarah Palin is back to tell us that she loves Alaska. And America. And Todd, the First Dude. She loves God, Ronald Reagan, cutting taxes and serving those she calls "ordinary hardworking people." Who's on Sarah's enemies list? The media. Good ol' boys who condescend to her. Elites like the Alaskan gadfly she describes as a "Birkenstock-and-granola Berkeley grad." Oh, and she really hates cynical McCain campaign staffers who, in her view, sabotaged her vice-presidential campaign.

That's pretty much everything you need to know about Going Rogue, the former Alaska governor's breezy new memoir. There's more about the intricacies of Alaskan politics than most readers could possibly care about. There are also familiar stories of life on the campaign trail. But Going Rogue is a book designed to re-introduce Palin as a national political force, and -- though she's coy about this -- to lay the groundwork for a 2012 presidential run.

The rap on Palin is that she's too shallow and inexperienced for the presidency -- a conclusion that early Palin supporters like me came to during the 2008 campaign. Alas, for conservatives in search of a champion, there's nothing in Going Rogue to challenge that conclusion. It's like this: Palin spends seven pages dishing about her appearance on Saturday Night Live, but just over one page discussing her national security views.

  • In House, Many Spoke With One Voice - Lobbyists' -...

It's time for government for the people not for big business.

Lobbyists Are Writing Health Care Speeches For Congress Members

WASHINGTON -- In the official record of the historic House debate on overhauling health care, the speeches of many lawmakers echo with similarities. Often, that was no accident.

Statements by more than a dozen lawmakers were ghostwritten, in whole or in part, by Washington lobbyists working for Genentech, one of the world's largest biotechnology companies.

E-mail messages obtained by The New York Times show that the lobbyists drafted one statement for Democrats and another for Republicans.

The lobbyists, employed by Genentech and by two Washington law firms, were remarkably successful in getting the statements printed in the Congressional Record under the names of different members of Congress.

Genentech, a subsidiary of the Swiss drug giant Roche, estimates that 42 House members picked up some of its talking points -- 22 Republicans and 20 Democrats, an unusual bipartisan coup for lobbyists.

In an interview, Representative Bill Pascrell Jr., Democrat of New Jersey, said: "I regret that the language was the same. I did not know it was." He said he got his statement from his staff and "did not know where they got the information from."
