I rarely if ever post ethnic jokes to this blog since I usually find them distasteful at best, and outright bigotted at worst, but this particular "Welsh joke" is too funny not to post here, especially since it is apparently a true story. . .

But I am not all *that* surprised to read this.

Reporters Without Borders\' index of freedom of the press rates Canada as 19th out of 175 countries. AFAIAC Canada *should* be in the top 5.

As she pushed her way out of the hotel where reporters had gathered to await the arrival of the Dalai Lama, her face had less of an \"I just spearheaded a worldwide Charter of Compassion and pal around with the Dalai Lama\" kind of look, and more of an \"I am in the middle of a very long book tour and who the %$#@ are all these reporters\" kind of look. This impression was further reinforced by the lack of any real introduction between us in favour of a rant about her suitcase, which had been mistreated by the airline, resulting in a broken handle. \"It cost me over a thousand pounds!\" she cried, shaking her head in anger. I opted for a simple nod, having just dusted off the old ripped grey wheely luggage thing I stole from my parents last Christmas, and not really appreciating the feeling I was currently experiencing of relative poverty. Compassion, all day, every day, is indeed a lot of work.

I am still trying to figure out why intolerant hard-core fundamentalist atheists who are outright hostile to religion would want to go to *any* church on Sunday, let alone a "church" whose very name proclaims the Unity aka Oneness of God. . .

Atheist Unitarian is an oxymoron. I do not mind open-minded atheists of good-will towards God believing people attending Unitarian*Universalist churches, but the intolerant anti-religious fundamentalist atheists who fervently believe that God believing people are stupid or delusional "Faith-Heads" have no place in *any* church, unless it is an expressly Atheist Church which the Unitarian*Universalist "church" aka *religious* community is not. . .
