NY state plans to interrupt your gaming to warn you about emergencies in your area.

I agree that something like this is useful and needed, but question its scope. Not all gaming happens online, and it would be better to have one of two things:

1) a gadget that sites between your game console and your video screen (NTSC or otherwise) that gets the Emergency Alert System messages. For some, it could also serve a parental control function of limiting gaming time at certain hours.

2) If the screen attached to the game console has a tuner onboard (ie, isn't just a monitor), it should be listening for wireless alerts in any event, and be able to put up the screen with instructions and audio alerts.
