Orbus was kind enough to review Progresswear, saying that we are "Subtly hacking the paradigm. Right balance between fashion and political activism." I'll take that. Nice selection of stumbles with an emphasis on the visual arts.

A seasoned, tasteful eye is somewhat of a rarity here. Stumbling can often subject the viewer to an array of color schemes better found on a child's birthday cake. Eatatdans is the antidote.

Plus I dig his politics. From his profile: "Left of Che, ACLU is for right-wing bigots, where is Joe Hill when we really need him? Organize!"

I just realized that I'd ought to give myself a thumbs up if I'm ever to show up in common with people who've thumbed up my profile here. So there, it's done. It's in the database.

Thanks so much for all the reviews and the thumbs up. I'm flattered as well that so many have tagged or reviewed my painting website as well as Progresswear.

A few have questioned using SU as a forum for free advertising, but most get the fact that in addition to being a social network, many people are using this for business networking. If a magazine editor or tv producer who could expose my shirts to many more people than my meager ad budget could reach, or a collector who might buy a painting of mine stumbles upon me here, all the better.

Hopefully you'll see that there's more to this blog than pimping my stuff. I'm enjoying reading everyone's pages, and often find myself lost for hours in the beauty and fascination that I find in this most generous and truly worldwide community.

One good review deserves another. A wonderfully British take on the planet. Thanks to him I've learned that in England one says "Thank f*@$k it's Friday." We thank God. Hmmm.

He's got a great eye as well. As a painter/designer I feel rewarded when a stumbler has such refined taste in art and other things visual. Well worth a visit.

Cul-de-Sac: Art from a Suburban Nation


I'm exhibiting in a show at the Radford University Art Museum in Radford Virginia this month. As my painting career has been on a bit of a back burner more often than not these past few years, I'm honored and encouraged by my inclusion in what promises to be an engaging exhibit.

Since postwar homes populate my paintings, many feel that my work is about suburbia. I quickly correct them, stating that my hometown which I paint is a small city, not suburbia. Nonetheless it's a subject oft addressed by artists raised from the baby boom to Generation X and I do indeed share many of their sensibilities and observations about life in these United States.

The University's site has a flash presentation halfway down the museum's page featuring several of the artists. I'll be exhibiting The Siege of Jean Avenue (illustrated here) and Madonna of the Power Lines, two pieces from the early 90s.

Tim Lowly is a renaissance man. Painter, teacher, curator, musician.
I first learned of Tim when I noticed that the majority of my hits on my own painting site were coming from Tim's sub site, Lowly Links.

Tim's created his own roster of artists, famous and not, living and dead, whose personal brand of realism resonates. I'm honored to be among them.
