This self-sufficient home - roughly 480 square feet including a screen porch - is both off-pipe and off-grid and made with durable and green materials. It's awesome!

From the page: It is the lightest solid known, although by volume it is 99% air. It is breathable, but it doesn't absorb water. It is incredibly strong for its weight. But most importantly, it is a fantastic insulator.

This Solar Decathlon home out of Germany is just incredible. 40 PV panels on the top and a skin of CIGS panels on the sides.
A net zero energy home that's LEED Platinum, too. Owner Michael Yannell had the home built with what could be Chicago's first grey water system, together with three, 250-foot deep geothermal wells, and a solar system that generates roughly 18,000 kWh a year.
This is pretty slick innovation -- designed to be used with asphalt shingle roofing.
