Tender is the Night is arguably Fitzgerald's best work, though not widely accepted at its first publication in 1934. In its initial version, Fitzgerald used a flashback, but when he saw that readers didn't appreciate his work, he edited it and rearranged the three books, so that the timeline is easier to understand and interpret. The final edition was published after the author's death in 1951. The book was rediscovered and is today referred as a wonderful modernist psychological novel. And it certainly is, as Fitzgerald entwined his own and his wife's stories in it.
