The complex network of stones, hill forts and earthworks allowed travellers to trek hundreds of miles with 'pinpoint accuracy' more than 5,000 years ago, amateur historian Tom Brooks says. The grid covered much of southern England and Wales and included landmarks such as Stonehenge and Silbury Hill, claims Mr Brooks, a retired marketing executive of Honiton, Devon.

What is also interesting is that from the works of Zecharia Sitchin (I forget which book), the landmarks of the ancient world, from the Great Pyramid, to Delphi, to Jerusalem, Ur, Babylon etc, are also in alignment, but on a much larger scale.

I agree that the ancients would have made use of signposts to aid navigation, and indeed the whole of England was later covered by a series of beacon towers to help warn of an invasion, however the fact that these and many other structures are in alignment points to their having more advanced knowledge than we traditionally expect them to have.

I still have a theory that post ice age, the remnants of what were previously more advanced civilizations were recovering and rebuilding, and although their means were primitive, they had some advanced knowledge passed down through the centuries.
