Perfect music for a hot day lying in the sun, with a cold drink to hand.

From yobaba:-
"Prime Minster Harper (of the Canadian Conservative Party) recently said in Germany that it was the governments to blame for the recession, not the private market. Every government is a massive non-profit organization that's forced to work in a for-profit environment with for-profit corporations. They have a fixed income with limited room for growth. A corporation's income, and room for growth, is potentially worldwide. The ideal of a democratic government is to create and maintain the structure of a stable society, and provide the services that the people have agreed upon. A ideal of a corporation is to make profit. The only limits to making profit are those imposed by government, and only because breaking the law ultimately decreases profit (if you get caught). Every corporation needs the roads, medical services, police, legal system, etc., that the government pays for. We pay our government to create a stable society in which that those who already have money can make even more money, by way of other people's labor or expertise. In the same decade that personal wealth reached new highs, that the gap demonstrably grew between the rich and the poor, our governments backs were breaking, along with ours, under debt load. While John Havens at Citigroup makes 11 million in a year, 99 percent of the country can't actually afford their house, and most still won't own it in 15 years. (What do you call it again when the entire populace goes to work all day to pay for the right to live on their land?). But it's the government's fault that that bubble burst. They should have regulated sooner. Don't let conservatives push the government out of governing. Governments exist to ensure your children have a safe, rational society to grow up in. A corporation only exist to make profit off your labor and the products (and soon, services) you buy with the money you labored for. " ~per Virgo
Courtey of anitab. I love this.
Quirky and talented.
A new Search Engine that claims to save Rainforests.
Talented musician and composer - especially for films.
Superb musician and choirmaster, now releasing a number of albums with his and other choirs.
Played organ at my wedding and some of his singers sang too.
When I first heard this one the radio, I came close to being moved to tears.
Silly really - and unusual for me.
Immediately became a Chis Wood fan.
I love that Chris is firmly in the Folk tradition, yet is happy to focus on contemporary songs, some with uncomfortable subjects.
I also love his voice and delivery.
My first guitar hero.
I post this having come across Led Zeppelin's adaptation of Bert's version of this song and also Jimmy Page playing Bert's guitar riff at the beginning of a live version of 'Kashmir'.
So many famous guitarists cited Bert as an inspiration, but later generations know little about him.
My love of Flamenco slowly crept up on me. I love the handclapping syncopation.
Think it's not subtle ?
Just try it - it will drive you crazy: an art form on its own.
This is my favourite Traffic song: its structure, the movements from Minor to Major, that hypnotic piano riffs, the various sections/tempos and the opportunity for fine musicians to improvise, all blend successfully together. I think of it as Traffic meets Soft Machine.
They did little better.
One of my favourite singers talks about his music and his life.
One of my favourite musicians. He managed to combine excellent song-writing skills with what today people call rap. Unafraid of making a harsh social critique in the days when most popular musicians saw their duty to comment upon the state of society, his analysis was just too uncomfortable for many.
Check out "The Bottle' for observations on alcoholism that are just as pertinent over 30 years later.
BTW, the revolution will not be televised.
Having some years behind me, I keep meaning to write down some Rules of Life for my nephews and nieces.
Until I get around to doing that, these will have to suffice.
The sweet Kathryn Tickell with the sweet-sounding Northumbrian pipes.
It's been a long time since I've posted Kathryn (one of my earliest posts I seem to remember).
Be still my beating heart.
Living in one of my favourite places in the World with wonderful sensibilities, wlady's reviews are well worth visiting.
I knew there was a good reason for being like this.
