Hummingbird hawkmoths (Macroglossum stellatarum) feed by hovering in front of a flower, probing it repeatedly using the proboscis. I always get pretty excited when I see one (I rarely see them where I live). I spotted one in my friend's garden yesterday. She was decidedly underwhelmed when I squeaked...
I don't usually make a habit of blogging individual photos, but I like the two I've posted here. I'd rather use ones I've taken myself but don't yet have a camera capable of anything better than a blurry dot.
