From the page: "clarify that, itâ€s run by a few people. Several thousand at most. And I think the point of the machine is to make their lives better. The lives of the few that run it. As for everyone else, itâ€s purpose is to provide us with just enough that we donâ€t revolt. Thatâ€s right, it gives the people the absolute minimum that it takes to keep us pacified and never an inch more. The selfish bastards who run the show have no interest in us other than as instruments of cheap labor. All they really care about is themselves and their families. Weâ€re so hopelessly oppressed weâ€ve forgotten that we are oppressed. But we are, and weâ€ll never be free as long as we buy into their crap. All this consumerism, and nationalism, and religion, itâ€s all bullshit. All are modes of oppression. We are not free people, for ”slavery"

From the page: "The ability to take multiple internal models and merge them to a new model - even of something that does not exist - is key to the ability to run simulations inside your mind.

Our search to understand what it means to be conscious, the meaning of life, etc. is based on this same principle. The idea is that the more accurate our internal model of ourselves and reality, the better choices we will make. Our brains are aware that often we make choices that end up bad, and the reason for this was simply a flawed internal model of either ourselves, of people around us, or other aspects of reality. The only way to correct that is to have a more accurate model. This is what drives the desire for education. When you seek to understand yourself, the universe, etc - you are experiencing the process of your brain modifying these internal models in order to result in more accurate outcomes to behavior.

    tl;dr : Consciousness"
