I am trying to raise £50,000 for a Cancer Research UK charity by running

Of all the things I do, running is my passion and I will be adding stuff about my running in my blog. But I do like lots of different things.

Sunday 8th October 2008 - The Great North Run
Completed my first Great North Run in 1hr:44mins
Started out VERY cold whilst getting to the start but soon became very warm which this picture demonstrates when I was snapped by the South Shields Journal photogragher.

Sunday 22nd June 2008 - Jane Tomlinson's 'Run For All' - Leeds
This was only the second year of this great new race. Last year there was 6,000 entrants compared to this years 11,264.
I certainly feel much stronger with all the miles I am running in training. And I must be improving because last year I finished 912th in 51.44 mins, but this year I was 516th in 47.33 mins. Knocking almost 4 mins off last years time. The picture below was a 'lucky shot' taken by my wife who just held the camera up and pressed !

Sunday 11th May 2008 - Beaverbrook 10k - Blackpool
Still running for charity in this event, but took it nice and easy today due to an injury, plus I was in my new role 'mentoring' a couple of friends who have just started running. Matt and Malcolm joined me for this event in fabulous weather running from the North promenade to the Pleasure Beach and back again. This was the first time either of them had run in a race, and this was Matt's first time ever running this distance. 4000 runners took part and it was a very good day with even more money raised for Cancer Research UK.

Sunday 4th May 2008 - Kings Lynn Great East Anglia Run. Norfolk

This was me racing to the finish line with the world famous running legend Ron Hill (70 years old). In 1970, Ron became the first Britain to win the Boston Marathon in 2 hours, 10 minutes, 30 seconds. Ron started running in 1954, but he is most famous for running every day (yes every day) since 1964, covering a staggering 150,000 miles. Ron was delighted to hear of my fundraising by running and volunteered to pose for publicity photos with me before the race. Not only did I meet this living legend, and ran with him in the same race, but I beat him by 2 seconds! (Yes ok I am 19 years younger than him).  Ron Hill also set up the now famous sports apparel business in 1970. You can read Ron Hill's full history on ronhill.com [ronhill.com]
