A bit of chilling figures in the summer heat

The world is getting too small.

Throughout history major population problems could be solved by migration into new virgin land.
Expansion was the natural way to meet demand for more resources; move west!
So our ancestors came to the American continent, fleeing from oppression and scarcity. And built this great nation.

The world population has increased almost exponentially, beginning in the early part of last century.
But there is no more place to go, no empty continent to discover beyond the horizon.
And resources are starting to dwindle, millions are starving already.

No matter what prefix you put before -ism, this is change we have to come to grips with.

Billions more people in our world will be a reality before 2050, unless a disaster, natural or man-made ditto, hits our planet.
They will not choose to quietly just die to benefit others.
They will have the same needs and demands [and rights] as we have.

Is the party over?
Not if we learn to manage what we have. We must.
And change our views on what is most important in life, more is not always better. Smarter is better. Less is sometimes better.
Smarter machines are better, for example, if we can drive from A to B using less energy, that is better and costs less, too.

And...we need to share.

Friends

I was meteor hunting tonight.
I only saw one and it was too weak to show up
in a photo against the moonlit sky.
The dotted line is from a jet plane
passing while the shutter was open.

We have tried to help our youngest get a car the last few days.
He found one in Horn Lake, Mississippi, yesterday and we went there
a bit too late in the day, perhaps, there wasn't much daylight left.

We need to think about it.

Interesting cars across the street.

On our way back we passed Graceland, where some faithful fans
were standing outside the closed gates in the dusk.
We also passed this place where I usually see
some very friendly ladies waving at me while I pass..

Summer night and the air is a bit fresher than it has been in quite a while, thank goodness.
It is still hot, but the haze and the muggy feeling are gone for now.

Saturday and the first time in a while, where Ansley had a chance to do
what she loves.

In the color bath........Oops, is it to dark? is my question.
"You're like a broken record" is my beloved's reply..

The wax is coming off, melted by the candle.

Almost done.
And she's still smiling at me..
