Michaelle Jean promotes Hurting Native Inuit - Canadian Governor Gen Eats Mercury tainted Seal Heart - a Tradition that is poisoning the Native people.
Thinking she was all proud, or standing up for Native people, Canada's Governor General Michaelle Jean promoted an act which is killing the Inuit people. Gutting and eating the heart of a seal and drinking its blood seemed like a great thing to so, until she found out that seal meat is contaminated. The DFO which runs the industrial seal hunt, ok'd the dumping of 400,000 tonnes of mine waste into Canadian waters. has now contaminated the Native Inuit and the seals with PCB's, Methyl Mercury, Brominated Flameretardants, Toxaphene, and LEAD.
Anyone Ingesting Seal Meat can give birth to future children that are deformed. Eating mercury tainted seal meat causes neurological problems, stunted brain growth, and children that are learning disables.
Ironic, since the Governor General Michaelle Jean gave a speech wondering why the graduation rate was so poor in schools in Nunavut, home of the native inuit people.

The Inuit are now some of the most contaminated people in the world. The tribal councils have been trying to stop the eating of seal meat, and here comes the Canadian Governor General to champion, and popularize it again, like someone cheering the Natives who traditionally once grew tobacco leaves to rejoice in the great tradition of puffing on a cigarette.

This is far from a matter of culture or tradition. This is a medical issue whereby what the Canadian Governor General did was promote an outdated activity which if touted and continued could mean the end of the entire culture.

The amount of mercury transported into the area seems to be much higher than anyone believed before." Indigenous peoples, especially the Inuit in Greenland and Canada, are particularly vulnerable because they eat whale blubber and seal meat containing high concentrations of toxins."
Canada's Governor General, willing to even foment the further poisoning of Canadian citizens and Native Inuit people, all in order to support under the false guise of tradition the embarassing government controlled Canadian SealHunt. A financial and economic disaster which is now not only costing the lives of animals, but costing the lives of Native peoples and Canadian citizens and their children.
