    Telling it like it is......
    If you`re familiar with Manchester city centre, then you`ll know that the main thoroughfare
    in our Gay Village has been renamed by local citizens for so long now;
    that Manchester City Council has given up the battle of the signwriters.
    What was once the boringly predictable Canal Street;
    Shall ever be known as Anal Treet.

    A lesser known sign on Chorlton Conservative Club HQ,
    declares that the founding stone was laid by Lady Cuntlippes.

    If the citizens of what was Gropecunt Lane in 18th centuary London
    want to return to their former moniker, then why not?
    Anything that makes me grin with childish delight is welcome, in the midst of grimy inner-city banality.

    From the page:

    Dirty words say strange things about us.
    When the neatly named 18th-century philologist Francis Grose reached "c" in his Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue,
    he described the direct word for a much-admired female attribute as a "nasty name for a nasty thing".
    Today, the word is the utmost insult although what it denotes continues to enjoy immense popularity.

    As W.B. Yeats wrote,
    "Love has pitched his mansion in
    The place of excrement."

    Hunter S. Thompson ~ The Rum Diary...
    loosely based on Thompson's experience working as a freelance journalist in Puerto Rico in the late '50s.

    2 shocking facts: I have just read a book. It is hot and sunny in Manchester.
    I received this book last Xmas, but I`m glad I waited 6 months to indulge.
    The steamy heat in the sun-trap of my balcony, transported me to the tropical days and nights of Puerto Rico. Satisfyingly atmospheric, down to my longing for a G&T, cluncking with ice. ( Rum would`ve had me passed out...)
    One of those books I didn`t want to end.

    While I have the reading bug- can anyone suggest a good book to suit a heatwave?

    Arranging your furniture so you`re in harmony, y`know?
    Make your life easier...
    So- I put the cooker, the fridge and the telly by the bed;
    Now I can fry a bit of bacon and watch Richard and Judy...Feng Shui`d."

    Sheer unadulterated fun. Thanks MonkeyMagico

    Display Case 4: Beetles (Order Coleoptera).
    "Beetles have complete metamorphosis. Larvae, pupae and/or adults of many species are used as food.
    Obviously, people would not eat adult beetles whole!
    The hard parts (wings, legs and head) are removed during preparation for cooking.
    The larvae (sometimes called "grubs") are soft-bodied."

    ....Yeah....Obviously...

    The Ridiculant - My Sunday Paper...

    "Freaky children's time-travelling murder comedy: youtube.com/watch [youtube.com/watch]
    This enthralling weird and disturbing kid's animation, from a short-lived series called
    Popee The Performer by director Ryuji Masuda

    In which a boy in a stripey rabbit costume and his friend are forced to duel to the death by a moustachioed God-King puppetmaster, all of them apparently trapped in an endless cycle of violence that none of them desire and yet are powerless to stop, repeating the same history over and over again in a desperate effort to stop the horror, yet only ever able to increase the bloodshed and the misery and the tears.

    Like we say, for kids."

    Not just a Giant Squid...Oh no- this one`s colossal:

    "Very little is known about colossal squid,
    which appear to live largely in the cold Antarctic waters and can grow up to 15 metres (50 feet) long.

    "They're incredibly rare - this is probably one of maybe six specimens ever brought up,"
    said Carol Diebel, director of natural environment at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa centre."
