Jun 30, 6:45pm (1 review) landscaping, self-improvement, news http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/01/busine...- I love Rosetta Stone. I'm not saying that I'm able to speak any more than one language with any degree of passability, but when it comes to teaching tools, these guys have their finger on it.
Meet Tom Adams, Rosetta Stone's CEO and resident risk-taker. You'd never guess from his articulate use of the English language, that it wasn't native to him. This is a guy who clearly thrives on uphill challenges. Now he's taking the company public, and I for one, wish him all the best.

"I mistook the metal/normal switch on the Walkman for a genre-specific equaliser, but later I discovered that it was in fact used to switch between two different types of cassette".
Awesome.

I hope someone has the good sense to market this thing with the name, "Time For a Picnic". You know, just set it out there in the yard right next to the potato salad, and watch the magic happen. Surely it's a more appealing gizmo than this nasty thing. Nothing personal, Mr Mays.

Share This- Making a Case for Garlic Scape - washingtonpost.com
Jun 27, 4:50pm (1 review) cooking, gardening, food http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con...- You know those green shoots that appear after you leave your garlic sitting around too long? Well, it turns out, they're delicious. Those little things are called scapes. If you're actually growing garlic in the garden, you would usually be inclined to cut them off to encourage your precious bulbs to fully fill out. Not any more.
My friend and I found some scapes at the farmer's market today, and we just finished putting them into a risotto, along with some pea shoots. That, and a bottle of Paringa, followed by a trip to the gelato place in the monster truck, is a pretty good summer eve in my opinion.

Jun 27, 1:58pm (4 reviews) humor, video http://www.break.com/index/detailed-rube...- A few things about this:
1. As usual, xian-o is waaaaay ahead of the curve as far as bizarre/funny/day-making stumbles go. Honestly, I think that broad has a superpower for making me laugh my ass off.
2. That someone actually took the time to add a slo-mo replay to this, is an indelible mark of devotion to one's craft.
3. Look at Purple Robot Shirt Kid. He knows what's coming. He's waiting there, staring at that fucking boot, just like the rest of us, except he's not going to laugh, and he knows it. Right before the big payoff, you can actually see his face change to that look of brave stoicism that revolutionaries invoke when they're tied to the firing squad post. He could have walked away any time he wanted, but if you watch carefully, right at around :25 or so, he actually does just the opposite. He checks his mark on the floor and repositions himself into what I'm calling the "Maximum Comedy" zone.
There are much funnier videos on the Internet, for sure, but there is something to be said for good old fashioned hard work and dedication, and for that, I'm thumbing this up.
Here's to you, Purple Shirt Kid, and to your friends, for a job well done. It's exactly that kind of dedication that makes this country the greatest place on earth. USA! USA!
