confessions of a food addict ...
From the page: "I can only liken my situation to that of a smokerâ€s: you know itâ€s bad for you, but you just canâ€t help but be addicted. I am guilty of not being disgusted enough. To atone for my bad eating habits, I am trying to go the way of Jared by eating at Subway. Unfortunately, I now eat subs in excess. While eating my sub at work, I was reading this guyâ€s blog about what the McDonaldâ€s chicken McNugget is really made of. An excerpt:
â€oeBut perhaps the most alarming ingredient in a Chicken McNugget is tertiary butylhydroquinone, or TBHQ, an antioxidant derived from petroleum that is either sprayed directly on the nugget or the inside of the box it comes in to â€oehelp preserve freshness.” According to A Consumerâ€s Dictionary of Food Additives, TBHQ is a form of butane (i.e. lighter fluid) the FDA allows processors to use sparingly in our food: It can comprise no more than 0.02 percent of the oil in a nugget. Which is probably just as well, considering that ingesting a single gram of TBHQ can cause â€oenausea, vomiting, ringing in the ears, delirium, a sense of suffocation, and collapse.” Ingesting five grams of TBHQ can kill.”"
