Feb 6, 10:25am (1 review) african-americans, politics, africa http://minneafrica.wordpress.com/2009/02...- From the page "I'm thinking ... we've heard this phrase again and again in its many variants, `Africa Must Unite', `Africans Unite', `African Solutions for African Problems', `My African Sister', `My African Brother' ..... oooooo I beg! I am tired of it all.
I am tired of it all because Africans only remember to unite when tackling a problem, who's source is seen to be from outside the continent. I am angry for you my African brother when the police have man-handled you, I sympathise with you my African sister when you are among the first one to be laid off at that American company, we are a proud African continent when the `Son of Our Soil' becomes president of America. Let's cheer on our African people at the Olympics and World Cup.
I forgot that you are my African brother when during the violence after the Kenyan elections I torched your house and stole your valuables"

Jan 12, 9:52am (1 review) biology, science http://www.boston.com/news/science/artic...- About time someone really looked into this: From the page "Geobiology, it's mostly called, although some of its leading lights stick to their old professional dogtags, such as biologist, geologist, hydrologist, biochemist. Others prefer more cosmic nomenclature: Astrobiology.
In any event, it is wild and wooly research occurring "on the frontiers of so many disciplines," said geobiologist Dianne K. Newman of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Geobiology is, in part, about looking for life or life's graffito - and finding it - in unusual places: deep in ancient rock, in super-heated waters of undersea volcanic vents, and beneath the ice of Greenland."

Jan 7, 8:49pm (1 review) african-americans, history, education http://blackoncampus.com/2009/01/07/word...- Born on January 30, 1844 in Philadelphia, Richard Theodore Greener was raised from the age of ten in Boston. He attended the Broadway Grammar School in Cambridge, Massachusetts until he was fourteen, then dropped out of school to help support his family, working as a porter, clerk and night-watchman in an assortment of jobs. With help from two of his employers, August E. Batchelder and George Herbert Palmer, Greener attended preparatory school at Oberlin College from 1862 to 1864 and Phillips Academy at Andover from 1864 to 1865. Batchelder arranged for Greener's admission to Harvard in 1865 as an experiment in the education of African-Americans. In 1870 Greener graduated from Harvard with honors, the first African-American to do so.

Events that are out of our control seem to be controlling our lives. We do not know what lies ahead, we can only stay focused in the present moment knowing that others have gone through tough times, emerging still intact in the end.
Soon enough, no matter how hard we push ourselves, no matter how much we fret and worry, we will die. Will we greet the end with a peaceful smile, remembering the moments where everything seemed right or will we be thinking about something we did not get done?"
