My most awesome friend, Cheyenne5030, Alex, is a fantastic singer with a beautiful voice! So we are hanging out on Skype swapping songs and speaking Spanglish this evening, when she turns me on to a most amazing tune! What happened was that after reading the lyrics to one of my songs, Just A Song, she commented that my words reminded her of one of the Cuban Singer-Songwriter Pablo Milanés's beautiful lyrics. Wow, was I ever flattered by that comment :)... Anyway, Alex and I have collaborated on a translation from Spanish to English of Milanés's lyric... Open this link in a new tab to have a listen while you read, if you care to... Alex and I had a blast... I hope you enjoy

El breve espacio en que no está
(The Brief Space Where She Is Not)

traces of her moisture still remain,
her scent has long filled my loneliness.
in bed her silhouette draws a promise
of filling the brief moment which she does not.

I still don't know if she'll ever return,
no one knows what she'll do tomorrow.
she breaks down my vast concepts,
does not confess the least sorrow,
she asks nothing in exchange for all of what she gives.

she's customarily both violent and tender.
she doesn't speak of eternal attachments
but gives of herself, as if she had just one remaining day to love.
    she does not attend meetings
instead she likes a song that challenges her way of thinking.

I still have not asked "will you stay?"
    I dread she'll respond "never."
I would rather share her, than to empty out my life.
she is not perfect but she is nearly everything I've dreamt of.

    Pablo Milanés
