My most awesome friend, Cheyenne5030, Alex, is a fantastic singer with a beautiful voice! So we are hanging out on Skype swapping songs and speaking Spanglish this evening, when she turns me on to a most amazing tune! What happened was that after reading the lyrics to one of my songs, Just A Song, she commented that my words reminded her of one of the Cuban Singer-Songwriter Pablo Milanés's beautiful lyrics. Wow, was I ever flattered by that comment :)... Anyway, Alex and I have collaborated on a translation from Spanish to English of Milanés's lyric... Open this link in a new tab to have a listen while you read, if you care to... Alex and I had a blast... I hope you enjoy

El breve espacio en que no está
(The Brief Space Where She Is Not)

traces of her moisture still remain,
her scent has long filled my loneliness.
in bed her silhouette draws a promise
of filling the brief moment which she does not.

I still don't know if she'll ever return,
no one knows what she'll do tomorrow.
she breaks down my vast concepts,
does not confess the least sorrow,
she asks nothing in exchange for all of what she gives.

she's customarily both violent and tender.
she doesn't speak of eternal attachments
but gives of herself, as if she had just one remaining day to love.
she does not attend meetings
instead she likes a song that challenges her way of thinking.

I still have not asked "will you stay?"
I dread she'll respond "never."
I would rather share her, than to empty out my life.
she is not perfect but she is nearly everything I've dreamt of.

Pablo Milanés

...and here is the original lyric:

El breve espacio en que no está

Todavía quedan restos de humedad,
sus olores llenan ya mi soledad,
en la cama su silueta
se dibuja cual promesa
de llenar el breve espacio
en que no está...

Todavía yo no sé si volverá,

Todavía no pregunte «¿te quedarás?».
Temo mucho a la respuesta de un «jamás».
La prefiero compartida
antes que vaciar mi vida,
no es perfecta, mas se acerca
a lo que yo simplemente soñé...

I Went back to Amherst earlier in the week. I took some pictures of Emily Dickinson's house. They have recently painted it to match the color it was when she lived there.

I am taken with you.

Taken Under You

further out I have traveled
finding only empty babble
nothing clear to fill my ears
confusion far and near

without you I have roamed
listening for your breathless tone
a stunning, beating, heating drone
it fills me up, then knocks me down

staring out of an abandoned house
I lay me out to rest
my eyes wont shut, I sense your touch
upon my restless brow

never near, you have left me here
sitting on a shore
I swim out and out and out
until I can swim no more

I drown myself in your laughing mouth
and dive into your bowels
digested, wasted and used up
I surrender to your silence

I have lost myself in a sea of hues
grayscale, amber, blues
beaten, shaken and transformed
I've been taken under you

This site has a most striking combination of interesting and visually appealing images. Started less than a month ago, I wanted to post everything I saw on this seventeen year old's blog.

the unknown

we do not know
the not knowing

the unknown

facing naught, we flow
like a river, we go

the unknown

around back
upstream, a month out

the unknown

an emptiness
harmless lest we let it

the unknown

a deep breath
the very last, perhaps

the unknown

merciless
the end comes, we bow

the unknown

bring it back
off the edge, a long drop

the unknown

a final walk
the last word, a flashing thought

the unknown

we do not know
the not knowing

the unknown

Gone

time again she has walked off into the sunset
dreams have followed her from the outset
a spacious main stage performance
a life captured upon a canvas
alone her steps leading
unto her destiny
and beyond

Gone

and beyond
unto her destiny
alone her steps leading
a life captured upon a canvas
a spacious main stage performance
dreams have followed her from the outset
time again she has walked off into the sunset
