NY Times endorses Prop 2, which would ban veal crates, gestation crates, and battery cages (the most intensive confining systems in factory farms).
It encourages all Californians to vote YES on Prop 2 in November, and for other states to enact similar measures!

Gilly Lloyd, who runs the project for Borneo Orangutan Survival International, said: 'We keep them for up to eight years.
'Most of them are found as orphaned babies and have to be totally rehabilitated with 24-hour care. Every day they go into the forest to learn how to be orangutans.'
Their plight is down to the clearance of rainforest, poaching and the illegal pet trade.

MRSA causes more US deaths than HIV-AIDS.
Meet MRSA -- methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus -- a nasty, antibiotic-resistant staph bacteria that appears widespread in North American hog farms. This past month, the bacteria was found in pigs at 70 percent of the hog farms tested in Iowa and Illinois. MRSA was associated with more than 18 thousand deaths in the United States in 2005.
