Catherine is a 22 year old woman from Philippines

My personal mantra goes something like "Remember that you're only given one life, and you don't know how long you're going to be alive. So spend as much time as you can with the people you love, do the things that make you happy, be true to yourself, chase after your dreams. And never stop dreaming." I love being alive. I love experiencing things for the first time. I love discovering things. I love listening to the stories of people, you never know what you might learn from whom. I like to keep an open-mind, and I always give other people the benefit of the doubt. I don't believe in giving someone my trust after they've broken it. I want to help as many people as I can in this world. I honestly believe that I can fulfill all my dreams. "Excuse me while I kiss the sky" ;) Catch me at Last.FM~43things

Everyone, please welcome one of my best friends to stumbleupon. She's new here, and doesn't have anything on her page yet. But she's really cool, and funny, and has the most awesome taste in music, and films, and fashion, and art. =)

So expect good stumbles to be on their way.

From the page: "How did you come across the children who you documented in the Ukraine?

By accident to an extent. I was shooting a group of children under similar circumstances in Russia that they refer to over there as "eesprizorniki". While I was there the Russians kept telling me about the kids that were literally living and dying in caves with dead dogs in their own shit, piss and vomit whacked out on drugs twenty four hours a day. Turns out they were right.

Was it as bad as you imagined?

Worse. The most common drug they use is the core of a nasal inhaler which they mix with vinegar and then pull through a cigarette filter. The resulting compound is injected and opiates the kid but is extremely addictive. I have no idea how they worked out this would have any effect but within weeks of use it can bend bones and cause massive nervous and immune system breakdown. None of these kids have much chance of making it past 20 and they know that so destroying yourself isn't such a big deal.

Does the government give these kids any aid?

There are Catholic priests who help them with a soup kitchen and minor medication but in the eyes of the government they don't really exist"

I always feel like crap after reading stories like this; during this interview, they fail to mention where these children's parents are. I hate the parents of these children, or any parents who let their kids end up like that. I know poverty has a big thing to do with why the kids are left alone. But I'm sorry for saying this, if you can afford to have kids, don't have them. Do not destroy a child's life just because you were irresponsible and horny. There are so many street kids in the Philippines too; the poorest families have the most children. Sometimes you'll see people with no homes; that end up having 10 or more kids. When you have that many children and can't even afford to sleep somewhere decent; what kind of life do you expect your children to live? I've spoken to really poor parents over here, and they say that having children is a beautiful experience, and I don't want to say they should be denied of that experience. I guess some people do make ends meet, and end up supporting their children. But do not make your kids beg, do not make your kids work when they're 4 or 5 years old. I really hate seeing little children in the middle of the highway begging for money, risking their life just to get a couple of pesos. These parents should be educated about proper birth control methods, but the Catholic Church is opposed to birth control. That's one, big hypocrisy in the Church's part. They say they want to help people, but they're failure to see humans as what they essentially are is destroying people's lives. They should just accept that people will have sex whether they like it or not, and the population will continue to grow, and the unemployment rate, and poverty rate will continue to grow too. I wish I knew how to help everyone in the world; there are so many causes out there, and so many people that need to be helped. I get more and more devastated every time I find out about another group of people that are forced to live in devastating situations. Who do I help first? I don't know how to decide.

"Let witchcraft join with beauty, lust with both!
Tie up the libertine in a field of feasts,
Keep his brain fuming; Epicurean cooks
    Sharpen with cloyless sauce his appetite;
That sleep and feeding may prorogue his honour
    Even till a Lethe'd dulness!"

Great collection of short stories, poems, and essays with controversial themes; that you've probably never seen anywhere else.

This was my self-proclaimed anthem when I used to go out every single night. I still love this song.

    Deep Dish - Flashdance

"He doesn't mean a thing to me,
just another pretty face to see,
cos all of the time, not that I doubt ya honey,
and I'd never let him next to me

He's the kind of guy who thinks he's smart,
he's the type that always looks the part,
he's on the make, he's on the take,
and I'd never let him touch my heart,

He didn't mean to catch my eye,
well he's lucky he just walked on by,
If he ever met, a girl like me,
    are you kidding?
well I'd tell him that i'd rather die...."
