From the page: "When I was in labor with Jacob, I was in charge. If I wanted something, I got it. My midwives were there to serve me from start to finish, no shift changes or other clients to interrupt us. Rather than nudging me down through a prerequisite set of standards and events, they guided me through labor based on what I was feeling, doing, wanting, and needing, not what they felt should be done. They touched me with their hands and spoke to me softly, and to each other in whispers so as not to disturb me. They adapted themselves to my positions to monitor the baby. When he was born he never left my side, even as we struggled to birth my placenta and to clear the fluid from his lungs. One midwife went home but the other spent the night with us, tucking me in, rubbing my legs, and bringing me vitamin-enriched drinks. The next day she personally drove us to the pediatrician to get the baby checked and then took us home, and came back one week, two weeks, and six weeks later. We still correspond regularly, whereas the CNM who delivered Jameson didn't even recognize me when I saw her during my second pregnancy."
