The fellow in pink paint may be a yogi, or as likely may be a fakir. Yoga is unity, not geography; quiet is found where it is pro-found; does it not transcend time? . Asceticism is a different aspect, surpassing santosha and aparagriha, tapas and svadhyaya.. M Gandhi was asked what he thought about western civilization and he is quoted as having said, "I think it would be a very good idea."
(NB: Fakirs are as "commercial" as any Mad-Ave TV spot, celebrity, clothing brand or wanna-be.) Yoga is not about the group or the culture; ultimately it is about my relationship with the Divine Within; IN the world, but not OF the world.
