I'm a semi-retired journalist at the Manawatu Standard in Palmerston North, New Zealand. I grew up in the days of pen and paper, when communication was much more difficult than it is today - but when, paradoxically, there was more true friendship. I love the internet, but sometimes wonder whether it hasn't devalued us as human beings by making us superficial, transient and eminently disposable. What do you think?
