Vikings have a chance to right a wrong and help Williamson - NFL - ESPN...

From the page: "Vikings have a chance to right a wrong and help Williamson"

While I may never be a Minnesota Vikings fan I am quickly becoming a fan of Troy Williamson. In a time where we have Micheal Vick involved in dog fighting, OJ getting in trouble again, drunk driving, steriods, etc... here we have a man that made a value statement concerning his family. THEY are more important.

I echo Mr. Kreidler's comments here: Vikings give the man his check.

We say we want Pro Athletes to stop getting in trouble, but when somebody does something incredibly good, and just, is that person rewarded? No we punish him. If he'd gotten a DUI the night before the game (assuming he still made the game) he'd have been paid. Go figure.

Ok now that I am done whining about the points system let's change gears here:

Denver Broncos: WOW...

Ok they've had a ton of injuries. But man oh man do they look bad.

They might not be rebuilding, but if this is the promised land hand me my paper bag now.

Desperate need of an overhaul. Starting w/ the guy walking the sidelines...I'll take a stab we shoulda sent Shanny to Houston and kept Kube's. Kubiak turning Houston into a solid football team. Shanny wrecking everything.

Hey I hear Marty Schottenheimer is available, nice move Bolts, I think someone there was smoking some serious crack firing Marty. Gee I know you brought us to a remarkable regular season record and the playoffs and barely lost to the Patriots in the playoffs. Ok who hasn't lost to the Patriots in the playoffs lately?

Focus...Bronco's.

Since they aren't rebuilding let's say for next year here is where they should focus (outside of replacing Shanahan):
-Cornerback- face it Dre Bly wasn't all that in Detroit..past his never prime. Get 2 guys.

Middle Linebacker: Need an Al Wilson clone in the middle and move DJ back outside. Run defense sucks because DJ isn't holding up at the point of attack and getting off blocks. He is much better in pursuit.

Running back: Travis Henry is working out nicely...uh not. He can't stay healthy, or stay out of trouble.

Offensive line: need some depth. 2 guys go down and it is like smear the guy with the ball out there.

Safety: Lynch is my man, but let's face it major liability in the passing game unless you blitz him. And he isn't getting there like he used to.

Loving the year Brandon Marshall is having he looks pretty good. Cutler is looking ok when he isn't on his butt, Scheffler rocks, Champ is Champ, but even he had the injury bug...

So sure they aren't rebuilding, but I hope they do something other than what they been doing because this is turning out to be a very long football season...

Just a thought.

In light of the previous post it is sad that on the same day that Jeff would have clinched his 6th Title he essentially loses the championship.

Oh 30 points isn't that insurmountable...if it was anyone but Jimmy he was chasing or if the 2 tracks left were say Sonoma and the Glen...

Oh well...the same people that brought us the cookie cutters, killed the Rock, the COT, bringing us this playoff nonsense...

Wonder how it feels for both Jim and Jeff. Golly gee wiz i won the championship, but if i was graded same as petty was, same as earnhart was, i'd be 400 points out and best finish would be 2nd.

Jeff gotta be thinking what the heck do I have to do to win a championship. In a year that he has absolutely been terrific Jimmy and that 48 team been just a tick better...for this newfangled points system anyway...maybe it should be called in bizzaro world you ran better... lol

Them's the breaks I suppose.

Don't get me wrong I like Jimmy Johnson and the 48 team. They are a fabulous team. I am just realistic here. Jeff only has a short window to win another Championship. Sooner rather than later he will look at his checkbook, his wife, and child and say "To heck with this crap riskin my life, running on stupid tracks, and losing out on winning due to some bonehead's idea of adding excitement to single file cars running in circles."

Just a thought.

Ok it's been forever...

I'm past that....

The Race for the Chase or the Chase of the Race, or the oh you know what I mean. The Nascar "playoffs" continue...

24 car lookin pretty good I might say (Jimmy I love ya but you really need to have a problem or 2 here).

I know we are a few years into this whole Chase for the Cup business...
But it is really giving me a case of the.... well it isn't making me very happy. It's stupid.

No other sport on the planet let's non playoff qualifying teams participate in the playoffs...duh isn't that kind of the point of making the playoffs?

Hey Jeff great job running away w/ the regular season. Now the dudes that were 3500 points behind you (mainly because of their tendency to wreck themselves (and others)) have nothing to gain and little to lose. Hmmm this is a good recipe. For total disaster.

20 caution laps at Martinsville...record number of cautions where the 24 car ran better on long runs (not sure how we know this since there weren't many of them late due to all the freagin lapped cars WRECKING...again NON CHASERS impacting the PLAYOFFS for which they didn't freagin qualify!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's all revenue. Nobody wants to pay the money to get into the stands or watches on TV (thus the whole TV sponsorship monies) if their driver isn't in the chase (I'd still watch because I am a junkie).

Here is some middle ground:

Line up the 43 cars like they do now for the "playoffs".

Qualifying during the last 10 races:
1-12 spots reserved for chasers placed by qualifying speed. Rest is sorted out by sliding them back to the first non qualifying driver's spot that they beat in time. Rained out qualifying goes by points (chasers 1-12 please take your positions AT THE FRONT).

Each of the last 10 races runs 70% of the laps. At that predetermined lap is a competition caution. The NON Chase qualified teams take their cars to the garage and their finishing order is recorded for owners points purposes (Owners points for that race determined by THIS result NOT the final outcome of the race)
-Example: Waltrip (non chaser) "finishes" 4th (at competition caution) Owner points=4th place finish...

3 laps run under caution...during this time Chase drivers can work on their cars, pit, change tires, whatever...same rules stay ahead of the pace car don't lose a lap...get behind the pace car after pit and well inside lane for you.

Chase Drivers down a lap when Competition Caution waves take inside lane and must regain lead lap via lucky dog/drive their way back etc...

Some predetermined penalty should be in place for non chase teams that wreck (regardless of intent) chase drivers during the first 70% laps. Meaning points driver and owner. This way if you want to put a rookie in the field during the chase and want to risk losing points due to stupidity go ahead....

It's an idea anyway.

Personally I wish they just left it the way it was. Hey so what if it is a runaway. Consistency is much more difficult than people think. It takes alot to finish top 5 top 10 all the time. than to sprinkle a win in here or there w/ a bunch of sub 15 finishes, etc...

Just a thought.

It has been forever since I've posted....
Let's see:
1. Shanny really made the big splash in Free Agency let me tell you.
2. Yes the 24 missed the chase last year.
3. Yes there is still some work to do this year for Jeffro...looks good if he can do what he does at Indy and the Glen :)
4. Hey Ashley Lelie....Are you on Crack Cocaine?....I cannot think of a team in the NFL (possibly even in College ranks) that you would be the #1 receiver on..... Let's see Jevon Walker and Rod Smith + contract year= tons of nickle back coverage = tons of catches = big contract next year = you are friggen retarded (oh yes and a selfish, egomaniac, ahole). I hope you get traded to the Saints for Reggie Bush and catch 2 balls in a contract year and end up bagging groceries at Winn Dixie.
5. How bout that Landis dude. Fella can ride a bicycle.. Nice to see the Stars and Stripes running the show @ The Tour again 8 years running.
6. I think Tony Stewart might be bipolar :)
7. Just kidding. I love that guy. Awesome driver. Just so competitive that he can't help it.
8. I would like to retract the negative remarks about Jake Plummer tho. A bit of poor sportsmanship on my part. He did have a very good year. Hey Peyton Manning (one of my favorites) hasn't exactly broken through in the postseason yet either (duh team sport you think?). Peyton rocks. He'll get there. His kryptonite: Too intense. I think his fire is what causes some meltdowns. He needs to be more like Papi or Manny...play it cool dude. Forget the last play and just have fun. Something like that anyway.

Anyway hope all is well with ya'll. The world seems to be going to heck in a handbasket. Break out the asbestus skivies......

In the immortal words of Rodney King "Why can't we all just get along?"

Look at the teams Denver plays next year:

Here is my prediction: Beginning of the end for Shanny. NO way they repeat as West Champs, NO way they finnish better than 10-6 without superhuman effort by the whole team

Good news is one step closer to a good coach...."But he coached 2 Super Bowl wins"

Yes and Barry Switzer coached a winning Super Bowl team too....given the all star team (or close to it) Shanny does fine....without Elway and Terrell Davis....duh...

Riddle me this: With John Elway Shanny dedicates to the run....with Plummer pass happy? I'm very very confused....

Plummer Hall of Shame

Super Bowl XL:

Steelers vs. Seahawks

Top 5 Reasons the Steelers will win:
1. Wouldn't it be fitting for Jeromme Bettis to win to win SB XL.
2. Jerome Bettis..... no words to describe the class act that is Jerome Bettis. Fine human being, great football player.
3. Bill Cowher
4. Bill Cowher
5. Solid play from all positions on this team (see 3 and 4).

Top 5 reasons why Seattle will win SB XL:

1. Shaun Alexander
2. Matt Hasselback
3. Solid defensive play.
4. Mike Holmgren
5. The "Nobody is giving us a chance" us against the world they will have by game day.

This game has the potential to be a very good football game, the only reason it won't be is that it is the Super Bowl and the emotion/etc will cause the first team to stumble to tank it (likely).
