12:57pm (3 reviews) law, israel, palestine http://www.islamtimes.org/vdca.en0k49ni6... Q - You are currently in Israeli custody, on what grounds have you been detained?
A - Well that's a very interesting question, because we have violated no laws. And its interesting that the twenty-one of us, who were onboard the Spirit of Humanity had our boat commandeered, we were hijacked, we were then taken to Israel which was not our intended destination. And we became the Free Gaza 21. I became Ramleh prisoner number 88794 and I am in right now Ramleh Prison.
Q - How is the situation over there? How do you feel? Is there any sort of pressure against you? Violence whatsoever, as you can see violations?
A - Well it's clear that there is a unique justice system here in Israel. Starting with our abduction, and as some have said who were part our group 'our kidnapping', with respect to our intended destination we were taking -- I personally had collected -- crayons, coloring books, number 2 pencils, pencil shapers, water colors and paint brushes to take to the children of Gaza. And now I find my self being deported from a country I had no intention to visiting.

Jul 3, 11:37pm (4 reviews) politics http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/07/03... Reporters are beginning to piece together an explanation for Sarah Palin's abrupt resignation announcement that stands in stark contrast to the reasoning Palin offered in her speech.
Speaking on MSNBC, Andrea Mitchell reported that, according to "people very close to Sarah Palin," she has "told her supporters that she is out of politics, period. She is fed up with politics. She doesn't like her life. She feels that she needs to raise her family. She's sick of the commute from Wasilla to the capital. And she really does not want to run for higher office, that this is not a case where she is stepping down in order to clear the way for a presidential run. In fact, she has told some of her biggest backers in the national Republican Party that they are free to choose other candidates for 2012, which of course opens new avenues for Mitt Romney, for Tim Pawlenty, for other potential candidates who are definitely in the running."

Jul 3, 4:56pm (1 review) law, africa, human-rights http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/813392...- From the page: ""The AU member states shall not co-operate... relating to immunities for the arrest and surrender of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir to the ICC."
The statement was backed by many African leaders who, analysts say, see the ICC as an attempt by the West to interfere in their affairs.
Sudanese Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Alsamani al-Wasila welcomed the move, describing the resolution as "very clear".
But, says BBC Africa analyst Martin Plaut, despite the Sudanese satisfaction a number of countries, including Chad and Benin, are reported to have expressed disquiet about the text.
It is also limited in scope, our analyst adds.
It does not ask the 30 African states that have signed up to the ICC to end their relationship with it.
Indeed, on the day this resolution was being passed, Kenya agreed explicitly to continue co-operating with the ICC, to prosecute those suspected of taking part in the violence that followed the December 2007 election.
The African Union decision is a blow to the court, but by no means a fatal one, our analyst says. "

Jul 3, 4:54pm (2 reviews) politics http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8133... Former Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has announced she will resign as governor of Alaska on 26 July and not run for re-election.
Mrs Palin's term of office was due to end in 2010.
Some have speculated that Mrs Palin, who is popular with the Republican Party base, might be preparing to make a bid for the White House in 2012.
But a report on NBC news suggested that Mrs Palin intends to get "out of politics for good".
Her resignation means Alaska's Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell will take over as state governor.

Unlike the censored society in Ray Bradburyâ€s Fahrenheit 451, old books owned by scattered eccentric individuals would be left alone, but only books from a narrow strip of the present would be publicly available for sale or lending. Present-day publishers could select some classics to be among these, and they could select other classics to revise â€oefor todayâ€s readers,” but which books were available and in what form would be entirely dependent on these publishers. Books that did not meet the ideologies of the publishers, the demands of the mass market, the trends of the day, would be destroyed. Even worse than censorship in which books are burned for content some deem objectionable, these books would be destroyed en masse, without individual consideration, only because they were not current."

Jul 3, 4:31pm (1 review) uk http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31705118/ns/...- From the page: "Britain faces a projected 100,000 new swine flu cases a day by the end of August and must revamp its flu strategy to cope, the nation's health minister said Thursday.
Britain has officially reported 7,447 swine flu cases and three deaths, but officials acknowledge the real number of cases is far higher, since many with the virus have not been tested.
Britain is the hardest-hit nation in Europe amid the global swine flu epidemic. Many flu experts believe numbers could jump exponentially now that the virus is entrenched. Because swine flu, or H1N1, is a new virus, few people have any natural immunity, allowing the virus to spread rapidly."
