This is another of my self-serving posts, but perhaps I'll be forgiven. This is the new blog for a program we have been running this school year. We have brought EarthView -- a giant, inflatable globe -- to about 8,000 students so far. The purpose is to promote geographic education. The blog is a response to the many questions students ask during our programs, and that we cannot get to.

This is a useful way to visualize our water footprints. Contrary to the reactions some stumbers have posted, it is more informative than preachy. And for those who are wondering, yes, the growing of crops is included (for example in coffee, beer, and beef calculations). The totals do not discriminate between consumptive and non-consumptive uses, or identify the impact on water quality of various choices (e.g., organic versus conventional coffee). But it is useful to view the relative scale of water use for different activities, side-by-side.

The Heatstick company has some very intriguing products. I look forward to trying out a couple of them. I thought the wearable hummingbird feeder was a joke, but it is real -- have a look at the video!
I agree with the Stumbler who wrote that the Kandle Heeter is not terribly efficient, but I plan to try one anyway as an enjoyable heat supplement.

Great contribution to coffee literacy. If you have ever been panicked in a coffee shop, trying to decipher the menu while people behind you in line want their coffee, use this primer.
