From the page:
Longest-serving teacher offers farewell tips.
"Good-bye, Miss Haley
Haley seems bemused in her role as "the Ultimate School Matriarch," as she calls herself. But as part of her farewell tour, she offers five tips for achieving longevity in the classroom:
* Unless you truly love children, run to the nearest exit.
* Expect respect, but show the children respect as well.
* Establish and maintain high standards on behavior, attendance, and punctuality -- children like living up to your expectations.
* Give as much as possible, which is the best advice I ever received.
* Never be confrontational with children, their parents, or the administration. There is always a better way. Find it.
"Follow this little bit of advice," she says, "and you will find that classroom a joy every day.""
