Even When Linux Fans Win, They Lose | PCMech

Ubuntu is a great linux distro. In my experience, anyone that is serious about a server uses BSD anyways. I adopted Ubuntu as a windows replacement, since BSD will do it (and I was running it as a desktop at the time), but Ubuntu does it with much more sexiness. I still wont use linux for a server for various reasons that are out of the scope of my character limit, but it absolutely rocks as a desktop. Any "hardcore" linux elitist that cheapens this is shortsighted. Linux is great as a server, but it has its limitations for things other than out-of-the-box hobbyist LAMP type applications. Subtracting from one of its strengths as a consumer product is stupidity.
