Hello! I'm a Catholic wife and adoptive mother of two children. I write books and articles about faith and adoption, and am editor of "Canticle," a Catholic women's magazine. In my spare time I enjoy globe-trotting, ballroom dancing, and finding the perfect creme brulee.
Forty Reasons We'd Do It Again: Adoptive Parents Reflect
At "Mommy Monsters," her blog for "perpetually challenged" and adoptive/foster parents, Heidi Hess Saxton shares why she and her husband would foster-adopt their beautiful kids all over again, if they could.
Inspiring reading for anyone who has ever adopted ... or even thought about it!
At her Marian blog by the same title as her book, Behold Your Mother, this Catholic adoptive mother explains why she loves Mary ... and why that relationship took so long to develop.
Reflecting on her early experiences as a foster mom, Heidi explains that the sibling group of three that initially came to live with them did not immediately warm up to Heidi's efforts at mothering. It wasn't until the darkness came and they were alone in their rooms that they turned to her ... and she loved them with a mother's heart.
"I didn't feel as though I needed Mary right away, when I converted to Catholicism at the age of 30," observes Saxton. "But the thing is, Mary's motherhood doesn't depend on our response." Sure enough, at a dark time in her life, she found herself reading out to Mary ... who responded as only a mother could.
The hilarious stylings of Anita Renfroe and her "William Tell Mom" got me thinking about the tendency we all have to turn out just like our own parents ... often despite our best intentions.
At "Mommy Monsters Inc," adoptive parent columnist Heidi Hess Saxton has posted a review of Parenting from the Inside Out that provides food for thought for those of us who wish to rewrite that internal parenting manual most of us acquired long before we were parents ourselves.
During the month of April, I am hosting a writer's contest at my Mary blog for those who are interested in paying tribute to the women who have touched their lives. Winners will be posted here during the month of May, and receive a free copy of one of my two new books.
