I enjoyed this. Hackers are a special breed. I know one who, as a teenage prank, got into the computers at the University of Chicago and ended up banned for his efforts but today, at age 33, makes about 5 times a year what I ever did in my entire career as a senior engineer for an internet development group in San Francisco...without a degree, because he walked away from a free ride in the honors program in the school of computer science at the U of I and just went to work. Hackers I've known, generally, can be best described as driven and single minded in purpose when they care about something and are often passionate about what they see as injustice. They're brilliant, sensitive, and, fortunately, mostly gentle beings.
