If we want to teach our kids to share, then sharing shouldn't be seen as a punishment or something they are forced to do while their own feelings are ignored and invalidated. If the goal is to socialize and make friends, most motivated kids will figure that out on their own - if the goal is to teach friends to behave with good manners, that takes a little guidance.
