An introspective study into the dimensions of perversions in the United States circa 1930-1950, and perhaps beyond. The ethnocentrism demonstrated by this photograph is beyond the scope of many Americans. Two weeks ago I had the pleasure of sitting down with Doris Kearns Goodwin. I asked her why is it, in her opinion, so difficult for Americans to grow a victory garden. Her simple reply was that the President at the time was asking them to do without, in reality for the ten years preceding the era of the Victory Garden, Americans were doing without. No one is quite sure if a reaction to a photograph such as this will place a return to normalcy. Irony aside, I should dare not ask the people of the United States to question the Three Senators running for the current White House, the Fourth was fond of the subject inherit in the photo but has since bowed out. A return to normalcy, perhaps, but a return to normalcy hard fought. The current crisis with the housing market and current rise in poverty and the diminishing middle class are slowly making this photo a reality again. In a real sense, as instilled for so long in the American psychology, the pursuit of happiness is indeed, property.
