Spanish Harlem- He is
where he was, caught
in her contracted absence,
fragments of voice suspended
in broken memories, places
he placed her (eyes tracing her
shape on the wall), his whole
world hers, a void
of horns storming through windows;
knowing he was where he always is,
trapped in a mind blown by vacancies
of wind, nothing to buffet
(nothing to press his shape upon, the wall
freckled with sun through the shades,
light that wind blew through
but never touched).
He was here,
where he'll always be
waiting for the wind
to die to breathe
the heat of a gone sun
to slam past walls of flesh
gone stiff and deaf
on the horns of night
