We get early warnings from many different sources in the course of normal business, and the response of preparing for a storm gives us a good idea of how to respond to unforeseen events in "normal" life.
A plan (what to do), a way to deal with overwhelming responses (triage, commander's intent) and a reminder that customers want a human response (don't forget to say please and thank you) is a good way to start.
