Thousands of Adult Stem Cell Deaths Show Urgency of...
Rated • 5 reviews • health • wired.com
From the page: "They're mass murderers, in fact. In only five years between 2000 and 2004, adult stem cells used in some 25,000 bone marrow transplant treatments have been complicit in at least 3,629 American deaths, 624 of which involved children under the age of 18, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. If the trend continues, adult stem cells will claim their 5,000th victim since 2000 this year."
An interesting claim. I'll post if I can find more info.

Will your vitamins be banned from the shelves after...

From the page:" New EU rules on supplements have made big headlines and attracted vocal opposition. Barbara Lantin sifts fact from fiction and explains how consumers will be affected
If you are among the 43 per cent of the population who take vitamins, minerals or other food supplements, you may well be feeling a little alarmed and confused. On August 1, the European Food Supplements Directive takes effect. From then, the only vitamins and minerals that can be sold in Britain will be those on a list of permitted substances, or those for which an application to be added to this "positive" list has been made."

From the page: "According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, women in their 20's and early 30's now account for a fifth of all Botox and chemical peel procedures. A quarter of 18-to-24-year-old women are contemplating cosmetic surgery in the near future.
Afraid to age, they urge plastic surgeons to treat them like they treat their decades-older counterparts.
Ashley Lavanty, 22, started getting Botox injections at 21.
"I don't have any wrinkles but the reason I want to do it is to prevent them from forming to avoid later surgery," she said. "My plastic surgeon said I really didn't need it. He didn't see the point in doing it, but … he did it because I insisted." [...]"
I had a girlfriend who was shy to smile because she thought smiling generates wrinkles. I tried to tell her showing emotions is preferable than a smooth face without emotions. Now this post says young women prefer a disabled face without wrinkles. Hope ı won't have anything to do with them :)

Native Intelligence: Why Im happy my health insurance...
Rated • 2 reviews • health, politics • laobserved.com
I'm living in a devoloping country but at least I have affordable public health care. I realy can't comprehend how you USA citiziens cope with insurence.
From the page: "On December 31, 2006, my health insurance cost $4715/year. On January 1, it rose to $12,268, when CIGNA hiked the premiums up to 254% for the writers, actors, and artists nationwide who buy insurance through the Entertainment Industry Group.
I'm thrilled. Really. Ecstatic. Well, at first I was a little bit upset, since I don't actually have the money. But I refuse to add another sob story to the daily stream.
No, I am looking on the bright side, and I can think of at least ten reasons I should be happy to pay $1022/month for health insurance%u2014and why I%u2019m excited that insurance companies like CIGNA will remain in charge of my health care under the reform plans proposed in California and other states."
