When we walked into his office, we immediately noticed a banner saying something to the effect oecreate a movement”. We saw the keyboard, the paintings, the books and these images all confirmed that he could address a number of topics. This is a man who has been a jazz performer for over 30 years, having appeared with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck and Bobby McFerrin. He holds four different degrees from Stanford: a Bachelor of Science in chemistry, a Master of Arts in music composition, a Master of Arts in humanities and a joint Ph.D. in musicology and humanities. This was going to be fun.
José is also a leader in active learning and the use of technology in the classroom, including podcasts and online games. We prepared for the shoot and up until the time we said go, we had no idea what he was going to talk about. What transpired was over an hour of conversation on creative thinking, pushing limits, and the artists role in the innovation process. From that conversation, we have developed a video series that will challenge you to open up your mind, to dream the impossible, and then create a movement.
Our thanks go out to José for agreeing to participate in this noble project.
